About the Show
This show introduces Japanese culture through Japanese traditional performing arts and through kimono. For the performing arts part, Nihon Buyo, Koto, Japanese Taiko Drums, and Awa Odori will be performed with their background information. For the kimono part, the show focuses upon kimono culture’s built-in “Zero Waste” concept and its highly structured actual practices. This part is titled as “Kimono: A Tradition of Sustainable Fashion.” Some of the students at Hunter College Japanese program leads the show as emcees. Also some students come onto the stage as kimono models. The Director and Assistant Director of the Japanese Program also perform traditional dance and music at this show.
