About the Big Three Bon Odori Workshop
The Big Three Bon Odori Workshop introduces three of Japan’s most distinctive and celebrated Bon Odori traditions:
- Nishimonai Bon Odori — Akita Prefecture
- Gujo Odori — Gifu Prefecture
- Awa Odori — Tokushima Prefecture
Nishimonai Bon Odori and Gujo Odori are both historic and highly renowned Bon Odori traditions, and are recognized by UNESCO as part of Japan’s intangible cultural heritage.
Here in New York, far from Japan, this is a rare opportunity to learn Bon Odori traditions that even many people in Japan may not have had the chance to experience. Come discover the unique movements, rhythms, and character of these three remarkable dances.
This workshop is also designed to prepare you for the November 21 event, where the audience will be invited to participate and dance along. We encourage you to learn the dances in advance so that you can join in and enjoy the experience at the event!
