About the Workshop

This 90-minute workshop is an introductory class where you will have the opportunity to experience and explore some of the movements of Japanese traditional dance (Nihon Buyo).

Unlike modern dance, which often features outward, energetic, and fast-paced movements, Nihon Buyo is characterized by inward, subtle, and quiet movements. The mind must move along with the body, requiring concentration, awareness, and an understanding of the movements.

This workshop is recommended for anyone interested in exploring this style of movement, as well as those who are considering joining the 8-week beginner workshop series starting in October.

During the workshop, you will have the opportunity to experience and learn what will be taught in the full course. Because it can be difficult to understand the body movements while wearing a kimono, participants will not wear kimono or yukata during the workshop. Please wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. Participants will dance in socks.

We apologize, but this workshop is not recommended for people with knee problems. Photography and video recording are not permitted during the workshop.
